Our mission is to provide plastic mats to guests at the Refuge of Hope and the YWCA. These mats can be used for a bed or to keep personal items dry. We crochet these mats out of plastic bags. We would love to have you join our ministry. We gather together on the fourth Thursday of every month to renew ourselves in our mission.
Please join us on Monday’s (January-October) at 1:00 pm to assemble quilts which we donate to Lutheran World Relief to be distributed to those in need around the world. Each year we make over 200 quilts! We would love to have you join us. If you aren’t available on Monday’s you can still help by donating material (sheets) thread or money for supplies. We also need people to help cut quilt squares. If you would like to know more about this ministry or how you can become involved, please contact Nancy Schoenbaum.

Blessing of the prayer shawls
This ministry knits prayer shawls to bring comfort to St. Stephen friends in hospitals and nursing homes. The gift of a prayer shawl is a lovely reminder of the care and compassion given by members of this ministry. We are always looking for donations of yarn and knitters to join our group. We will gladly teach you how to knit if you wish to join in this ministry. We hope you will join us on the third Thursday of the month for fellowship and knitting!
Hammer and Nails
St. Stephen has recently become involved in helping area home owners in need of miscellaneous repairs and projects..
St. Stephen helps fund this ministry who provides food and clothing to those in need in Canton and the surrounding area. Volunteers travel to downtown Canton to help distribute clothes and food on Tuesday mornings.
Join us in making no-sew fleece blankets on the second Saturday of each month. These blankets are delivered to those in need living in Webster Springs, WV. Please contact Nancy Schoenbaum for more information.
Preparing a meal at UrbanArk
Every September, St. Stephen members participate in the ELCA Day of Service. We host a number of projects so that everyone can find some way to be involved. We have made fleece blankets, scarves and hats. Collected school supplies to package to LWR School Kits. Made placemats and cards for Meals on Wheels, provided cookies to first responders, shared vegetables with Community Harvest, paid for peoples laundry at area laundromats, paid for peoples meals at restaurants, completed home and yard projects, knitted prayer squares, collected pajamas for The Children’s Network and provided supplies for the Serving Area Military Center. This is a day where we fully share God’s love.
