Our Story

St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church, founded in 1967, holds a special place in the hearts of its congregation members and the surrounding community. Its humble beginnings can be traced back to the Lake Cable Clubhouse, where a group of dedicated individuals sought to establish a place of worship and spiritual fellowship.

In the late 1960s, the Lake Cable area was experiencing significant growth and development. A group of Lutheran families residing in the community recognized the need for a local church where they could gather to worship, study scripture, and nurture their faith. Eager to make their vision a reality, they began meeting at the Lake Cable Clubhouse, which served as an ideal temporary location for their budding congregation.

With unwavering determination, the founding members of St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church, named in honor of the Christian martyr St. Stephen, worked tirelessly to establish a strong foundation for their faith community. They organized regular worship services, Sunday school classes, and various activities to foster a sense of unity and fellowship among the congregation.

As the church grew in size and popularity, the need for a permanent place of worship became evident. Recognizing this, the congregation embarked on a journey to acquire a suitable property. Through generous donations and fundraising efforts, they secured land on which to build their own church building.

In 1971, St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church celebrated a significant milestone as they dedicated their newly constructed church facility. The completion of the building not only provided a place of worship but also became a gathering space for community events, social outreach programs, and educational opportunities for people of all ages.

Throughout the years, St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church has continued to serve its congregation and community faithfully. The church has adapted to changing times and has embraced new technologies and methods to enhance worship experiences and strengthen connections among its members.  Trinity Lutheran merged with us in 2011 and we grew into a second campus in 2021 with the adoption of Kountze Memorial in Louisville, OH.

The church's ministry extends beyond the walls of its physical building. St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church has actively engaged in outreach initiatives, partnering with local organizations to address social issues, support those in need, and promote community development. Our dedication to serving others reflects the teachings of Christ and the values that have guided the church since its inception.

As the years have passed, St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church has grown into a thriving and vibrant spiritual community. It continues to be a place where individuals and families come together to worship, seek guidance, and find solace in times of joy and sorrow.

The legacy of St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church, starting in 1967 at the Lake Cable Clubhouse, is one of faith, perseverance, and community. The church's commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of its members and reaching out to those in need remains strong, ensuring that God's love will continued to be shared for generations to come.  St. Stephen continues to be a church where love lives!
