first time visitors

At St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church we understand that visiting any new location, especially a church, can be intimidating.  We truly do want you to find what we find here, that this is a place where love lives.  That's why we've assembled some common questions from new visitors to help make you feel comfortable and welcome.

Frequently asked questions

Who are we?

We are a church that loves Jesus, loves people, and loves our community. Our mission is to help you experience God's love so you can grow to love like Christ. Our vision is to be an exceptional community of believers, committed to sharing Christ's love, so that our priorities more closely reflect the Kingdom of God.

When and Where?

We have multiple services Sunday morning with each offering their own unique way to experience God's love. Just minutes away from the heart of Belden Village, St. Stephen is located at the corner of Dressler and Fulton. Read more about each worship service.

Is there a dress code?

The dress code is come as you are. There’s no need to come in a suit, tuxedo, or anything too fancy. Our contemporary service is a little more casual.

What should I expect on my first visit?

When you first enter the church, it is our goal to make you feel welcome and happy that you are here. One of our greeters will meet you at the entrance with a smile and ready to answer any questions you might have. From there, you can explore the building to find out more about what we offer, take your kids to Sunday school, or head right into the worship service. Our services start on time, so come early to get a great seat!

What is available for my children?

We were hoping you would ask! We have a safe and fun environment for kids of all ages. We offer a professionally staffed nursery for little ones to enjoy while you worship. Sometimes little ones become fussy during worship. For that, we offer a cry room designed to calm them down, yet allow you to continue worshiping. Our Sunday School program is tailored for children pre-school to 4th grade. Confirmation studies begin in 5th grade and continue through 8th grade. The high school youth program includes plenty of opportunities for fellowship and volunteering as they continue learning about Christ and growing in faith.

What is the worship experience like?

Our Celebration Services (8 & 10:30) offer a traditional service that includes hymns, musical sounds of our pipe organ, choirs, and hand bells. The Gathering Service (9:15) is a more relaxed contemporary service that includes today's music preformed by our praise team, a live band, technology enhanced worship, and thoughtful preaching from God's word.

What do I do when I first arrive on Sunday?

If you decide to visit us this Sunday, please make sure to stop by the Welcome Center or simply let one of the ushers know that it is your first time with us. We'd love to help you and your family get situated, and our pastor would love the opportunity to shake your hand and personally welcome you to St. Stephen.
