Baptism
Connecting Us with God's Community
Baptism is one of two primary sacraments for the Lutheran Church (Holy Communion is the other). We believe Baptism is a means of grace; in other words, it is one of the significant ways God’s love is shown to us. Since Baptism connects us with God’s community, all baptisms at St. Stephen Martyr are conducted within a public worship gathering.
Baptism connects us with
-
God’s promise - Nothing will separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:37)
-
God’s people - We are mysteriously connected with all who have gone before us, all who live with us, and all who will follow. (Hebrews 12:1)
-
God’s possibility - The gift of God’s Holy Spirit energizes us for our daily lives and embraces us forever with this assurance, “You are a child of God, chosen and marked by my love, the pride of my life.” (Mark 1:11 The Message Bible)
